Ronald Koeman admits he would have preferred Denzel Dumfries not to go to Real Madrid.

With the summer transfer window closer than ever, Real Madrid has already taken on the task of moving some strings under the table to bring new faces to the club.

Although the Merengue team cannot make any official moves due to the presidential elections taking place until Sunday of this week, we have already learned about some.

The first we knew about was the Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho, whose presentation has been suspended until the elections are over, followed by Ibrahima Konate, and now the 30-year-old Dutchman, Denzel Dumfries.

The right-wing back for Inter Milan will arrive at Real Madrid, who will pay €20M for his release clause, if Florentino Perez, the club's current president, is re-elected as president.

Dumfries will occupy the place that Real Madrid legend Dani Carvajal leaves vacant after his departure at the end of this season.

Analyzing this new signing, sports journalist Julio Maldonado 'Maldini' explains what the Dutchman's future will be at the club.

Maldini says that Dumfries is a very offensive player, as he usually plays close to the midfield and often attacks from the inside, almost like Carvajal, hence the comparison.

He also assures that technically Trent Alexander-Arnold is much better than Denzel, but defensively, the latter is more aggressive, so Real Madrid will finally find a balance that had not been completely convincing with the other young player.

"Real Madrid is right because they need a right back because the Arnold thing has been a fiasco, a great disappointment."

Julio Maldonado.

The journalist also highlights that we will have to see how Dumfries evolves next season since he recently had an injury and was seen playing less.

But that has not worried Real Madrid too much, as the player is currently considered one of the most important in the Netherlands and is highly valued.

This 2025/26 season, Denzel Dumfries participated in 30 matches, contributing 5 goals and 2 assists.

"I like the signing. It's true that he is 30 years old, but it's a good signing."

Julio Maldonado.

However, not everyone liked this change of scenery for the player, as the Netherlands coach, Ronald Koeman, reacted to Denzel's move to a new team.

During an interview with the media, Koeman recognized the player's merit in having reached the Whites, but he would have preferred to see him more at FC Barcelona.

"I don't know if the transfer is already completely closed, but if anyone deserves it, it's him. I would have preferred him to go to Barcelona."

Ronald Koeman.

Other acquaintances of the Dutchman have also joined in the congratulations, including his Netherlands national team teammate Tijjani Reijnders, who wished him the best and said he was happy for him in an Instagram post.

Without a doubt, Dumfries will be very helpful to Real Madrid, and for now, we just have to wait until Sunday's elections so that the official announcements are not delayed.
