This World Cup could see a historic first: Spain attending the tournament without a single Real Madrid player on the roster.
We are a few weeks away from knowing the final rosters of all the national teams for the 2026 World Cup. And, with this, we will witness whether a historic event occurs. At the moment, only Dean Huijsen could be considered the Spaniard who would go to the tournament from Real Madrid.
If this were to happen, we would have to go back to the 1950 World Cup in Brazil to find something similar. The Spanish national team, back then led by Guillermo Eizaguirre and Benito Diaz, only took one player from Real Madrid: Luis Molowny.
However, it is important to remember that in recent call-ups for La Roja, Huijsen has not been called up due to the inconsistent level he has shown with the white club at the end of the season, so his absence from the final roster would not be seen as far-fetched by Luis de la Fuente. If this were to happen, it would be the first time in history that Spain goes to a World Cup without a single Real Madrid player.
This only confirms the dark period the club is going through, not simply due to the lack of trophies this season, but because of the atmosphere in its locker room. This Thursday, we woke up to the news that Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni came to blows during training after a series of confrontations.
Similarly, it was reported that Antonio Rudiger and Alvaro Carreras also reached the point of physical confrontation. Meanwhile, Mbappé leaves training laughing, wanting to make it clear to the cameras filming him that he is unconcerned about his teammates' situation.
Will the club take action against all those involved in disciplinary matters? We will see. What is certain is that the club needs a coach who can control all the egos that coexist in the locker room.
This makes it clear that Arbeloa was not fit to maintain a healthy coexistence and ultimately let the situation explode. For now, the only thing left is to finish the season with honor and not allow Barcelona to be crowned in front of you. Sunday's match will be a must-win.
