After their excellent displays in a seriously hard fought win on Saturday night, two Real Madrid players have been named in the WhoScored Team of the Week.
On Saturday, Real Madrid picked up three points in their opening La Liga game, after they beat Espanyol 2-1 away from home, courtesy of a last minute winner from summer signing Carlos Espi.
It was not the best performance overall, far from it in truth, but the team dug deep to get the win, and there were a few individual performances that really helped get the team over the line.
Two of the players who played particularly well in the game were Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler. There had been a lot of curiosity over how much the latter would play this season, considering he has Bellingham to compete with for the number ten role, but in this game there was room for both of them in the same team, with Guler playing off the right hand side, and they both put in a good performance.
So much so, that they have been named in rating app WhoScored's La Liga Team of the Week for match day two of the season. The full XI is as follows; Soria (Getafe); Garcia (Barcelona), Martin (Barcelona), Hancko (Atletico Madrid), Espart (Barcelona); Bellingham, Lopez (Barcelona), Romero (Sevilla); Guler, Raphinha (Barcelona), Oso (Sevilla).
The two players combined for Real Madrid's opening goal, in the 9th minute of the game, with an excellent cross from the young Turk headed home by the 23-year old to give Jose Mourinho's side an early lead.
Aside from the assist, Guler also created seven chances, completed 4/4 long balls, drew two fouls, and had 62 touches of the ball. All of this whilst being substituted in the 64th minute.
Meanwhile, alongside his goal, Bellingham created two chances, completed three successful dribbles, won 2/3 aerial duels, and had 60 touches of the ball. He was replaced by goalscorer Espi in the 80th minute of the game.
There is a hope that, under the guidance of Mourinho, the Englishman will get back to his goalscoring best - or at least similar - of the 23/24 season, his first season in the Spanish capital. We have seen midfielders such as Frank Lampard and Wesley Sneijder score a lot of goals from that sort of number ten role under the gaffer, so let's hope for similar this time round.
Having scored seven goals at the World Cup, there is no doubt Bellingham will be full of confidence, and we know what he is capable of when he is in the mood and in the groove, so let's see.
