Xabi Alonso could return to a managerial position soon, potentially facing Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Arne Slot's position at Liverpool is increasingly under discussion, and he could be fired in the coming days. After falling to Brighton & Hove Albion, there are options that he will not remain in the post during the international break. And Xabi Alonso's name is the favorite to take his place.

Alonso is without a team following his dismissal from Real Madrid, so he would face no obstacles in landing at Anfield. Additionally, he is a club legend, so they would be delighted with his return.

In recent days, it has been emphasized that Alonso still does not have an agreement with Liverpool. However, initial contacts have already been made with the Red club, according to Defensa Central.

According to this report, Alonso is clear that he does not want to spend a year resting without coaching; rather, he wants to return to coaching as soon as possible. This is why Liverpool's proposal could be very attractive to him. It would be a return to a club where he is a legend and with which he will compete for titles.

If they dismiss Slot during the international break and Alonso arrives at Liverpool, there could be significant interest. The Reds are on the same side of the Champions League bracket as Real Madrid. Therefore, both teams could face each other in the semifinals.

It will not be easy, as Liverpool faces PSG in a very demanding quarterfinal. Real Madrid, for its part, faces Bayern Munich in what could be an early final. But if both advance, it would mean Xabi Alonso's return to the Bernabeu.

If Real Madrid and Liverpool advance to the semifinals and Alonso returns to the Anfield dugout, it would mark the return of the man from Tolosa to the Bernabeu. A few months after being dismissed, although this time he would do so as a rival. A detail that would mark that matchup between the two.

Additionally, if that matchup occurs, the second leg would be played at the Bernabeu due to the home-field advantage. Bayern finished second in the league phase, so Real Madrid would inherit that privilege. Although many scenarios must unfold before Alonso returns to the Los Blancos' stadium.
