Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal's chances of making Spain's 2026 World Cup roster are in doubt.
With little time before the 2026 World Cup begins, Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spanish national team, has spoken about Dani Carvajal's situation.
Since his injury in October 2024, the Real Madrid right-back has not been the same and continues to face a bad season.
Carvajal will finish his contract with Los Blancos on June 30, and despite his efforts, things have not always turned out as he would have wished due to the injuries he has faced, which likely means he will not have the pleasure of seeing his contract renewed.
Because of his poor performance, he has been displaced by younger players of a higher level, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has earned the respect of Real Madrid's recent coaches.
It was also revealed that Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa believes that Carvajal has been more interested in himself and his desire to be in the World Cup than in worrying about his team, which adds more salt to the wound.
And now everything indicates that the Real Madrid captain could also miss the World Cup. Although the fans did not expect the Spaniard to miss it, it seems this will be the case.
According to Diario AS, Luis de la Fuente commented at a news conference on the situation surrounding Carvajal.
He clarified that he has already spoken with the player, but he still needs time; if he can demonstrate he still has what it takes, everyone will be happy.
"I have spoken with him. He does not have anything serious, but he needs time to show the level he has. We will see if he has it. Just as I brought him to the national team in his day, he will understand if I have to make the opposite decision. I hope he recovers because we will all be happy," the Spanish coach commented.
Between June 11 and July 19, the World Cup will begin, so it will be difficult for Carvajal to make the roster, but it will never be impossible. At 34 years old, Carvajal has played 21 matches for Real Madrid without scoring or providing an assist.
