Manchester United is targeting a Real Madrid starter to bolster its squad this summer, with several players expected to leave Old Trafford.
Manchester United is seriously thinking of Aurelien Tchouameni as one of their main candidates to replace Luis Casimiro, the experienced Brazilian midfielder, who is leaving the "Theater of Dreams" at the end of the season after a difficult campaign.
The Telegraph reports the growing interest of the "Red Devils" in the Real Madrid midfielder, a complicated move they would activate at Old Trafford in the coming weeks, in the case that the merengue club were to go for Rodri Hernandez (the Manchester City midfielder who has not closed the door on a move to Madrid).
This summer, Manchester United is considering signing two new central midfielders, or even three, if the Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte also leaves the club in the upcoming transfer window. Real Madrid signed Aurelien Tchouameni in 2022 from Monaco for around $100 million plus add-ons, a very significant financial investment for the Spanish giants at the time.
With Tchouameni in their engine room, Real Madrid has won 8 major titles: 1 Champions League, 1 La Liga, 1 Copa del Rey, 2 Club World Cups, and 2 European Super Cups.
James Ducker writes that "Aurelien Tchouameni is among United's main candidates to replace Casemiro, in their search for a top-level defensive midfielder this summer" and that "any negotiation with Tchouameni, whose contract runs until 2028, could depend on Madrid signing a new midfielder this summer and needing to sell a player to finance that entire operation."
"Florentino Perez is known for his long-standing and well-documented admiration for Rodri, the Madrid-born Manchester City midfielder who won the Ballon d'Or in 2024," he emphasizes.
In England, the local media keep pointing to Rodri (who ends his contract in 2027) and Enzo Fernandez (the Chelsea midfielder who has recently made clear overtures to Madrid) as two of the serious options that Real Madrid is considering to reinforce its center of the pitch.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and Manchester City are bidding against each other to secure the services of Elliot Anderson, a 23-year-old highly rated midfielder for whom Nottingham Forest is asking for more than $114 million. It seems that, for now, City has moved ahead of United in this potentially expensive summer deal.
