Real Madrid's €125 million signing of Yan Diomande makes the list of the five most expensive transactions completed this summer. Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool also feature in the top five.
The transfer market has officially closed in the major European leagues, and five players were responsible for transfers for immense sums of money. One of those spots was occupied by a Real Madrid player, who, if you have been following the team's signings, you already know who it is.
First place goes to midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who, since April, began his drama with Real Madrid, as the Argentine publicly said he wanted to live in the Spanish capital, drawing heavy criticism. However, in the end, he signed for Manchester City for €145 million, which is illogical, since he will stay in the same league, in the same country (whose weather he criticised), and will have to visit Stamford Bridge at least once a year.
In second place is Morgan Rogers, Aston Villa's star from the previous season, who was linked with teams such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Juventus, and Arsenal. With the latter, he had the most advanced negotiations; however, Chelsea arrived and convinced him to join their ranks for an amount close to €138 million. Xabi Alonso's project and reuniting with his friend Cole Palmer seem to have been the key points in his decision.
In third place is Elliot Anderson. The English midfielder was on the negotiating table with Nottingham Forest (his former club) and Manchester City, who wanted to sign him before the World Cup ended. This ended up happening, and the Tricky Trees ended up taking €135 million, making him, up to that point, the most expensive signing in Cityzens history, a feat that Enzo ended up keeping a few weeks later.
In fourth place is the Real Madrid player. Clearly, it is Yan Diomande, whom the Merengue club signed for a modest €125 million, making him the most expensive signing in the club's history. Pressure? Not at all, or at least that is what the Ivorian winger, who until a few weeks ago belonged to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, assures.
The fifth and final place on this list goes to Bradley Barcola, who, despite having had quite successful years (at a group level) with Paris Saint-Germain, such as the back-to-back Champions League titles, decided to leave this summer in search of a starring role at Liverpool, which paid a figure close to €125 million for him. In France, he previously had a backup role behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is usually Luis Enrique's main left winger.
