Osasuna is very clear that Victor Munoz will not leave for less than €40 million. But keep in mind: Real Madrid takes half of whatever they earn and also has a buyback option this summer.

“We don’t even listen; we refer to the clause.” That is how forceful Braulio Vazquez, Osasuna’s sporting director, was after Sunderland’s verbal proposal for about €25 million. At Osasuna, they have been clear since February: they will not negotiate below the €40 million release clause. That said, with a key detail: 50% of that operation would go to Real Madrid, which retains part of the player’s rights.

The forward’s situation is not simple, but obviously it would change if Madrid wanted to get involved. Osasuna acquired 50% of the rights last summer, but Real Madrid maintains a buyback option that it can exercise starting this summer transfer window. And that changes everything.

While the name of Victor Munoz is beginning to be mentioned a lot in the market (even with rumors of other big clubs… and Barcelona), Braulio Vazquez asks for calm and focuses on the immediate: “Real Madrid has three years of a buyback that is already agreed. What we do is enjoy Victor until the end of the season. Football is changing very quickly.”

The player’s growth has been meteoric. In just seven months, he has gone from prospect to international with Spain, establishing himself as one of the great breakthroughs of the season. Even so, at Osasuna, they do not hide the reality. They would like him to stay, but they know it is not only up to them.

“Many people criticized us for betting on such a young player with so few minutes in the top division. Now they ask us why we didn’t buy 100% of his rights. It’s complicated. We happily accepted the rules that Real Madrid had imposed. Victor Munoz was absolutely right, and so were we,” Vazquez concluded. In Pamplona, they are clear: they enjoy him now… because the future is open.

For many, the player’s future is quite clear, with Real Madrid filling up each passing week with more injured players and closing doors in every tournament they participate in. This summer, the club will clean house, both the coach and several players who have not been up to standard. So the outlook for players like Munoz, Paz, and Endrick could be very obvious.
