Brice Samba backs Lucas Chevalier after his PSG starting spot vanished.

Recruited last summer by PSG to be the No. 1, Lucas Chevalier lost his place to Matvey Safonov. Brice Samba says he is not worried about him.

Arrived at PSG last summer to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma, Lucas Chevalier had been a starter during the first 20 matches of the capital club.

Despite a few errors, he had kept Luis Enrique's confidence and even earned his first call-up to the French national team. But during the match against AS Monaco on Nov. 29, he was sidelined for several weeks.

During that time, Matvey Safonov has shone and seems to have gained the upper hand in his duel with the former Lille player in the Parisian coach's mind. Lucas Chevalier has not played since Jan. 23. His place on the French national team, a few months before the World Cup, is under serious threat.

Brice Samba, the third goalkeeper for Les Bleus, was asked about the possibility of him moving up to second in the goalkeeping hierarchy with France. He wanted to defend Lucas Chevalier.

"That, I don't know, you first have to ask coach Deschamps, it's just that I will be at the service of the group, and wherever I am placed, I will accept it. With Lucas, we spoke recently. It's true that his situation isn't easy, because we all aspire to play. He's a very hard worker, of course, he wasn't hoping to have a season like this," the Rennes goalkeeper said in a news conference in comments relayed by L'Equipe.

"After that, he's someone who has a lot of confidence in himself, and we've all had that period in our careers, I'd say, where you have to learn things, digest them, accept them, above all, and get back to work, simply because we don't have a choice, we have a coach, he's the one who decides. In any case, I'm not very worried about Lucas; he will bounce back very quickly. He's also in a club that is 1000% exposed; it's not easy. The little mistakes he may have made at Lille, they're maybe the same at Paris, but it's much more exposed. After that, he's still very young, and I know he has a very great and bright future ahead of him."
