Werder Bremen director confirms star defender is drawing significant interest, with PSG reportedly eyeing a summer move.
In recent days, PSG's interest in Karim Coulibaly was reported. Clemens Fritz, the sporting director of Werder Bremen, has confirmed interest in his central defender.
PSG is always on the lookout for bargains in the transfer market. In recent days, interest from the capital club in 18-year-old central defender Karim Coulibaly of Werder Bremen was reported.
PSG has reportedly scouted the player multiple times and even exchanged communications with his entourage, without yet making a formal offer to the German club.
On the program Doppelpass on Sport 1, in comments relayed by DeichStube, Clemens Fritz, Werder Bremen’s sporting director, confirmed interest in his player without naming any club.
“That interest is not a surprise. We are talking about an 18-year-old left-footed central defender who is an undisputed starter in the Bundesliga. He is attracting interest. He is very clear-headed. Very focused and determined, and that is exactly what we need right now,” the executive explained.
DeichStube confirms that PSG is indeed interested in Karim Coulibaly and that he ranks high on Luis Enrique’s list to strengthen his defense. The German media outlet, which specializes in Werder Bremen, concluded by stating that the German club wants to sell the central defender this summer for between 40 and 50 million euros.
Since Luis Campos took the sporting director role, PSG has changed its approach to the transfer window. The Parisians now focus on seeking out young talent to further develop in Paris under the direction of head coach Luis Enrique.
This is just one example of that type of signing, as is the recent acquisition of Dro Fernandez from Barcelona. The 18-year-old midfielder scored his first professional goal against Nice, after Enrique gave him multiple opportunities to showcase his talent in Ligue 1.
With that as a reference, and given the success stories of other players who arrived at 19, such as Desire Doue and Joao Neves, it is difficult to imagine that Coulibaly would not be attracted to the Paris Saint-Germain project.
