Le Parisien reports PSG plans a summer facelift, not an overhaul. Central defender and backup replacements only. Senny Mayulu extension expected.
A Champions League semifinalist, PSG can retain its title this season. The Parisians could even win several consecutive trophies without necessarily making a big transfer window next summer.
Senny Mayulu almost did it again. A scorer in the Champions League final last season, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder hit the crossbar after coming on in the semifinal first leg against Bayern Munich (5-4) on Tuesday.
The academy product thus justified head coach Luis Enrique's confidence, and perhaps that of the sporting management. With one year left on his contract and, given the reported deadlock in discussions over his extension, Mayulu, 19, could have finished the season in the doghouse. That is not his superiors' decision, and the development revealed by Dominique Severac may have something to do with it.
"For Mayulu, positions have warmed up, and it's going better," revealed the journalist for Le Parisien. "I see him extending even if I don't have specific information on this case at this moment."
On his way to be re-signed, the 19-year-old midfielder is part of PSG's plans. The idea remains to complete the small squad with young players. A strategy validated by Severac, convinced that the European champion can monopolize the trophy.
"For the summer, Paris will look for a central defender and replacements for the replacements. For example, if Lucas Chevalier or Kang-in Lee want to leave, Paris will replace them with a goalkeeper and a versatile midfielder. We're talking more about a facelift than an overhaul," Severac said.
"This team, given its youth, still has three good years ahead of it. I think it can win the Champions League in 2027, 2028, 2029, with very few tweaks." For the moment, PSG will try to keep its advantage in the return leg in Munich on Wednesday.
