Manager Arne Slot's surprising transfer talk dominates after Champions League exit, following a 0-2 loss to PSG.
Liverpool was knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by PSG for the second consecutive year, this time in the quarterfinals. Manager Arne Slot said something unexpected after the game.
During his post-match media duties, Slot referred to the upcoming summer transfer window. Something strange, to say the least, because for many fans and pundits, the coach should not remain at Anfield.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Slot said, "Let's see if we can add new players after selling some good players this summer."
Of course, context matters, and the coach is not saying that his players' deficiencies caused them to lose the tie against Paris Saint-Germain, but certainly, the timing was not the best either.
PSG boss Luis Enrique, for his part, stopped at the Canal+ microphone to debrief the match, savor the moment, and remind everyone who was still the boss of Europe.
"If you just analyze what happened last year, you can know what type of match we were going to play," he said.
"But today I am very proud because, especially in the first half, we controlled the match, we played in the opponent's half, it is a very difficult thing to do in this stadium, in this atmosphere, and we had a very good first half."
"And in the second half, there was suffering, as we knew before the match, but we did what you have to do when you don't have the ball. They took a lot of risks, and we knew that sooner or later, we were going to have counterattacks, and we scored the two goals. I think over the two matches, we deserved to qualify."
PSG took the victory 2-0 with a brace from Ousmane Dembele. On aggregate, they won 4-0.
