Manchester City vs. PSG: predicted lineups and the big attacking doubt for Luis Enrique, with Dembélé, Doué or Akliouche as the false nine.
Easy winner over Slovan Bratislava (6-1) last month on the first Matchday of the Champions League, PSG challenges Manchester City on Wednesday night, a side riding an eight-match winning streak across all competitions, including a 3-0 win at Liverpool on Sunday.
On the first Matchday of the Champions League league phase, Enzo Maresca's team won 2-0 at Porto.
For this City-PSG clash, Luis Enrique will have an almost full squad, as only Senny Mayulu will miss the game with an injury, which is far from dramatic given that the Spaniard has given him only 67 minutes of playing time since the start of the season. Ousmane Dembélé and Nuno Mendes are available after resting against Le Mans. Will they start, though?
For the Portuguese left-back, there is no doubt, given the competition at his position and his fine form. The usual defense should be back for this City-PSG match: Matvey Safonov in goal, Achraf Hakimi on the right, Marquinhos and Willian Pacho at center-back, and Nuno Mendes on the left.
In midfield, the big-night trio is also expected, with João Neves as the right central midfielder (and not the left one as against Le Mans), Vitinha as the holding midfielder, and Fabian Ruiz as the left central midfielder, which would mean that Warren Zaïre-Emery, who replaced Neves on Saturday in the 58th minute, starts on the bench again.
In attack, Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are likely to start on the right and left wings, respectively, after coming on against Le Mans. The Georgian even ended nearly two months of drought by scoring two minutes after coming on. The central question of the false nine remains.
Ferran Torres, who started on the right against Le Mans before moving into the middle, will he start again? Or will Luis Enrique throw Ousmane Dembélé in from the kickoff after nine days of rest? A start for Maghnes Akliouche in the middle is also not ruled out and seems fairly credible.
PSG's predicted starting XI vs. Manchester City: Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos (c), Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Ruiz; Doué, Dembélé (or Akliouche), Kvaratskhelia.
On Manchester City's side, which has just won 3-0 at Anfield against Liverpool, Enzo Maresca has a full squad and many options, whether in midfield with three men (Enzo Fernandez, Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi) for two spots, or on the wings with Jérémy Doku, author of a stunning cameo against the Reds, Iliman Ndiaye, Antoine Semenyo or Phil Foden, who had been suspended for three matches but is available in the Champions League.
Scoring against Sunderland before the break and then against Liverpool on Sunday, Rayan Cherki seems well on track to start as the number 10 in Maresca's 4-2-3-1.
Erling Haaland will obviously start up front, having also scored on Sunday at Anfield, and the only slight doubt ultimately concerns the left-back position, with a duel between Nico O'Reilly and Josko Gvardiol.
The Croatian has played more since the season started and seems to have the edge. For Manchester, Gianluigi Donnarumma will face PSG for the first time since leaving the club in the summer of 2025.
Manchester City's predicted starting XI vs. PSG: Donnarumma; Nunes, Dias (c), Guéhi, Gvardiol (or O'Reilly); Enzo Fernandez, Anderson; Semenyo, Cherki, Doku; Haaland.
