As attention turns to the 26/27 curtain raiser against Premier League side Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup, here is all you need to know about the opposition.

PSG begin their 26/27 season no later than tomorrow, when they face UEFA Europa League winners Aston Villa of the Premier League in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg, Austria.

Luis Enrique's side successfully defended their UEFA Champions League crown in Budapest earlier this year, and they will be looking to defend their Super Cup crown in Salzburg.

However, it will not be easy, with Villa a very good side themselves. With that being said, what can we expect from the opposition?

This current period has been one of the most successful periods in Villa's history. In the Autumn of 2022, they moved to bring in former PSG boss Unai Emery, and have not looked back since, with the Europa League win over Freiburg in May ending a 30 year trophy drought.

It is not the same team as the one who defeated the Bundesliga outfit three months ago, however. Key players Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans - both of whom scored in the final - have moved on to Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

Meanwhile, as we all know, Lucas Digne, who played 81 minutes of the final, officially rejoined PSG over the weekend, and could make his second debut for the club against his former side.

Lest we forget, Villa are no unfamiliar opponent, with the two teams meeting in the Champions League quarter-finals back in 24/25. A lot of PSG fans would agree that the Villains gave Enrique's men their toughest challenge of the tournament, with the tie ending 5-4 on aggregate and Villa having a number of chances to make it 5-5 late on in the second leg.

In terms of dangermen, with the aforementioned players out of the building, the Parisians will have to be very cautious of striker Ollie Watkins, as well as new signing Johan Manzambi in the midfield, who impressed with Switzerland and at the World Cup, and played against Villa in the Europa League final.

Elsewhere, attacking midfielder/winger John McGinn is always a threat, and scored in the 24/25 quarter finals. Frenchman Boubacar Kamara has returned from a long term injury and could feature in this game, perhaps alongside the recently signed from Wolves, Joao Gomes.

This will definitely be no easy game. Although football is not as simple as this - far from it -  Emery's side are a much better outfit than Spurs, who managed to take PSG all the way to penalties in the Super Cup last year, and if it wasn't for two late goals, would have won the game in the 90 minutes.
