According to high level reports today, Thursday the 23rd July 2026, PSG manager Luis Enrique is set to sign a long term contract extension with the club
In 2023, when PSG appointed Luis Enrique as their new manager, there were quite a few doubts and question marks.
Although he had success with Barcelona, many had attributed that to the fact he was working with a front three of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, considered by some as the greatest attack of all time. Thus, the consensus was that it was harder to fail than to succeed in those conditions.
Then, as Spain manager, his team had been dumped out of the World Cup in the round of 16 by Morocco, and had finished below Japan in the groups. His style of play during that tournament was seen as slow, ponderous and predictable.
However, things at PSG have gone better than anyone could have ever expected. In his first year, despite all of the distraction with Kylian Mbappe's future, he managed to win Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, whilst getting to the UEFA Champions League semi finals, where bad finishing stopped the team from advancing to the final.
Then, in his historical second year, PSG won the treble for the first time in the clubs history, an achievement that has never been done by Real Madrid, so it should never be taken lightly. The team won Ligue 1 at a canter, beat Reims 3-0 in the Coupe de France final, and then beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final, the biggest win in that game in the modern era.
Last season was also incredibly successful, although a freak defeat at home to rivals Paris FC stopped a second consecutive treble from happening, the team still won Ligue 1 and then the Champions League again, beating Arsenal on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Well, it appears as if Lucho has been rewarded for that. Indeed so, as French outlet L'Equipe are reporting that he is set to extend his contract until 2030. As per transfermarkt, he currently only has 12 months remaining on his existing deal in the French capital, so this is very important.
It cannot be overstated how big a sign of ambition this is. We all know that Enrique would have offers from just about anywhere. Middle East in terms of generational wealth, Premier League in terms of coaching in England and still gazumping PSG financially, La Liga for going back to his homeland, etc. To be able to keep him long term despite all of that is huge.
