After several weeks of reports and links, PSG appear to have finally agreed a fee with FC Barcelona for the transfer of Spain national team forward Ferran Torres
PSG got their season off to the perfect possible start on Wednesday evening, as they defeated Premier League side Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg, Austria.
However, there is still a hope and expectation from within the fanbase and Luis Enrique himself that there will be further additions made during the remainder of this summer transfer window, that is set to close on the 1st of September.
Well, it looks as if that wish has now been granted. Indeed so, as Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has used his “Here we Go” catchphrase for the signing of Ferran Torres from La Liga side FC Barcelona.
Romano reports that the fee will be €50m, and that the player only wanted PSG (amidst links from other clubs). Interestingly, he does not mention add ons, so perhaps it is just a €50m flat out fee.
A very good signing in any case. Torres is a versatile striker, capable of playing in any position along the front line, and has worked with Enrique before with the Spain national team.
At Barcelona, Torres was also a ‘squad player’ who could fill in when needed, so he is already used to this sort of role. His presence will allow Ousmane Dembele’s minutes to be carefully managed, particularly in domestic games, and that can never be a bad thing at all.
Last season, in La Liga, the forward scored 16 goals, despite only starting 23 games. This is the sort of productivity that would be a huge help for the team, especially in Ligue 1 games.
At 26, the World Cup winner is at an age where he has lots of top level experience and knowhow, but with his prime years now set to come, which is perfect for PSG, and the team should see the benefits of that.
Aside from being familiar with the gaffer, Torres has also played with Fabian Ruiz for a number of years now, which should make it easier for him to settle at the club, both on and off of the pitch. Very exciting indeed.
So, that’s Kang-in Lee and Goncalo Ramos out, with Maghnes Akliouche and Torres in (forwards only). With Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye consistently linked with moves away, it will be interesting to see if any more come in. Winger Mika Godts from Ajax continues to be linked with a move to the French capital, so let’s see.
