According to reports out of England on Monday evening (the 3rd of August 2026), Premier League giants Liverpool are interested in another PSG player.

It has become quite apparent that, despite another very successful season for PSG, there is going to be somewhat of a rebuild at the Parc Des Princes this summer transfer window.

We have already seen forwards Goncalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani and Kang-in Lee depart the club on a permanent basis, whilst Ibrahim Mbaye and especially Bradley Barcola continue to be linked with moves away from the French capital.

Well, perhaps there is one other player who could depart the club. Indeed so, as English journalist Daveockop is reporting that central defender Ilya Zabarnyi is still under consideration by Liverpool (was linked very early in the window by the same source) and that the Merseyside outfit have spoken to the players representatives.

As the source mentioned early on in the window, PSG would like to at least recoup the €65m they spent on the player when signing him from AFC Bournemouth last summer.

This could make sense as new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola was his manager for two seasons in the 23/24 and 24/25 seasons, where he developed him to the extent that he earned a move to PSG.

It is clear that the Premier League outfit are currently desperate to bring in players in that position too, which is something Luis Enrique’s side could use to their advantage in negotiations, but let’s see.

Although the Ukrainian international played a lot in Ligue 1 last season - 28 games and 26 starts - he featured just seven times in the UEFA Champions League, starting only two times, neither of which came during the knockout stages. His cameo in the final was just his second appearance in the competition after Christmas.

So, certainly one to keep an eye on. It has been mentioned that PSG are looking for a right sided central defender this summer, so perhaps that is with a Zabarnyi departure in mind.

He certainly is not a bad player at all, just maybe not quite the game changing defensive signing that the club had in mind. It has been similar for his defensive partner at Bournemouth, Dean Huijsen, who joined Real Madrid at the same time Zabarnyi joined PSG.

Early on in the Champions League campaign last season, the 23-year old played really well as the Parisians won away to Barcelona. However, it would be the next game where things went wrong, as he was sent off 37 minutes into a 7-2 away win over Bayer Leverkusen. Sadly that was probably the turning point for him at the club.
