Lucas Chevalier remains benched at PSG behind Matvey Safonov, but he is working hard to reclaim his starting spot as goalkeeper.
One season has passed since Paris Saint-Germain's goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, arrived, and his stay appears to be in doubt again.
Chevalier arrived at PSG in the summer of 2025 to fill the starting gap left by Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Although the 24-year-old Frenchman seemed set for a good start with the Rouge et Bleu, Chevalier gradually lost the starting goalkeeper position due to inconsistent performances and injuries, especially the one at the end of 2025, when he injured his ankle before December.
In his place, the team's coach, Luis Enrique, expressed confidence in the team's second goalkeeper, Matvey Safonov, who helped PSG win the Champions League for the second consecutive time.
The Spanish coach then, upon realizing that the team performed well with Safonov, put Chevalier in the background, who has been on the bench since that moment.
Rumors about a possible departure have always abounded. Even in this summer's transfer window, it was said that perhaps the Frenchman would choose to leave the club in search of playing minutes, especially with Juventus of Turin's interest in him.
Lucas did not confirm anything at the time, although it was rumored that he wanted to win back his starting position. Luis Enrique appears not to want to change roles between the goalkeepers.
According to information provided by L'Équipe, Lucas Chevalier continues working hard to climb back to his starting position.
"The situation has not changed, but Lucas's idea remains the same: to work to reverse the situation. Day by day, he does everything possible to achieve it," his entourage stated.
As the outlet continues explaining, the former Lille player has chosen to stay and has maintained his charisma and loyalty toward the club, which has allowed him to maintain a high level in training.
"The player from the north knows that he has not succeeded in everything, neither off the field nor in his relationships with his teammates nor in his first steps at the club. A necessary introspection that has helped him grow," the outlet concluded.
With certainty, we cannot know if this season will be different from last, but meanwhile, Lucas Chevalier will continue striving to compete for his place, or perhaps, his departure is closer than we think, taking advantage of the next winter transfer window.
