Luis Enrique says PSG 'clearly deserved to win' despite a 1-2 loss to Monaco. The coach blames bad luck after 23 shots.
In Ligue 1 Matchday 3 of the 2026-27 season, PSG hosted AS Monaco on Friday night at the Parc des Princes, and the Parisians fell 1-2, despite Marquinhos opening the scoring (31st).
Two goals from Nazinho (58th) and Idumbo (72nd) were enough for Monaco, who were rarely dangerous and were helped by a great Hradecky in goal. PSG extended their winless run to four matches and still haven't beaten a French club this season.
After the defeat (1-2) of his team, manager Luis Enrique spoke to Ligue 1+ and lamented the cruel scenario of the match, pointing to the lack of luck at the moment.
Q: Coach, you sighed. That sigh, this defeat is tough, isn't it?
A: "That's it, that's what I've always said. The losing coach who has to be here; it's the worst moment for coaches, but I laugh about it. I accept my responsibility as a coach, of course. And if you want me to talk about the match, I'll tell you that I'm happy with what I saw. It's clear that it's the start of the season and we're not at our level, but I saw a lot of positive things. Today, for me, it's clear that we deserved to win."
Q: 23 shots, 10 on target.
A: "And the expected goals, which normally tell you the quality of the chances you have, are clearly in our favor (2.5 to 0.5). But that's football; it's a wonderful sport."
Q: And so, how do you explain that? Physically, we're not ready yet?
A: "No, no, no, no. If you're not physically well and you play this match, no, there's nothing to say. Football, there are times when it's inexplicable, and you have to accept it. These are the types of matches where, normally, if you have a lot of bad luck, you draw. And today, I remember that every year, over the last three years, having matches like that, inexplicable. But today, it's one of them, and I want to highlight the players' mentality. We are there. It will be an exciting championship, and it's clear that, in terms of luck, this is not our moment. But we have to prepare for the future."
Enrique needs to make some changes to his squad. Things are not working out. They have now registered 2 points out of 9 possible.
For now, PSG will have to focus on the Champions League, as they will start their league phase on Wednesday against Slovan Bratislava at the Parc des Princes.
