Just days before PSG take on Arsenal in this season's UEFA Champions League final over in Budapest, the team have been given a massive boost
On Saturday evening, at 18:00 CET, PSG will partake in their second consecutive UEFA Champions League final, as they take on Arsenal in Budapest.
Once this game is over, there will finally be a rest for certain PSG players, after being pretty much non stop for two years straight. Not every player will get some time off, what with the World Cup this summer, but it gives a chance for players such as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia the time to recharge the batteries.
Even some of the players who will be off to the World Cup may not get a whole load of game time. Some will play for nations who are knocked out early, so even those players will get a rest of sorts. So this really is one big push for everyone involved.
It looked as if Luis Enrique may have been without right-back Achraf Hakimi for this one. The Moroccan international has still not featured since picking up a hamstring late on in the semi final first leg at home to Bayern Munich, whilst trying to press Konrad Laimer in the corner.
However, a positive update has now been given. Indeed, as French journalist Olivier Tallaron is reporting that Hakimi will be fit for the final, with no doubts at all, and he can start the game if Enrique chooses to do so.
Now, in truth, Warren Zaire-Emery had actually been deputising very well in that position. Although he does not have the pace and attacking guile of his counterpart, he probably does add a bit more defensively, and generally did a good job at helping to keep Luis Diaz quiet in the second leg.
Considering that Hakimi has missed fair chunks of this season, ironically because of a bad tackle from Diaz himself and then also through AFCON, Zaire-Emery has played at right-back quite a bit this campaign, and has generally looked very good when doing so.
In which case, with this update, Enrique actually has a selection headache. Which of Zaire-Emery or Fabian Ruiz come out of the team? If it is the Frenchman, it is a like for like change. If it is Ruiz to come out, the 20-year old would then move to his nominal midfield role, and allow Hakimi to slot in on the right side of the defence.
Or, does he perhaps go bold but also potentially wise, and continue as it is? A cliche often used is if it isn't broken, don't fix it. As mentioned before, Zaire-Emery has filled in well, and Ruiz was back to his world class best against Bayern. A tricky one for the manager, but this is why he is paid the big bucks.
