According to reports from the French media, a PSG first team player and club legend will be allowed to depart the French capital in the summer transfer window
On Saturday evening, PSG secured their second ever UEFA Champions League after beating Arsenal on penalties in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. They also became the first team to win the trophy consecutively since Real Madrid did so back in 2017.
The new generation; the likes of Joao Neves, Nuno Mendes and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia played a huge part in the win, as well as the in his prime Ousmane Dembele, who scored the equaliser from the spot.
However, one more player who played an important role was the veteran skipper, Marquinhos. The Brazilian defender was subbed off in extra time, but was generally imperious during the game. You can tell how important his experience is, in what is in the most part a young side.
But, that experience may not be there next season. Indeed not, as French outlet L'Equipe are reporting that, for a second consecutive summer, the 32 year old will be allowed to depart the capital in the summer transfer window.
It is mentioned that there is interest in the defender from Saudi Arabia, but the defender is not so interested himself, with a move to Qatar instead something he would be more up for doing. Perhaps that is due to the links with the PSG ownership.
Well, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens with the skipper. It is mentioned that after the Champions League final, there was nothing left for Marquinhos to do. That is even more so the case now after winning the trophy again. He had already swept up all the domestic trophies you could ask for years ago.
He signed for PSG all the way back in 2014. To give a club 12 years of service in the modern game is almost unheard of. He has been at the club so long that he has played with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Luiz, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Gregory van der Wiel, Maxwell, Javier Pastore and Lucas Moura.
To have played with all of the above and also the likes of Neves, Vitinha, Desire Doue and co just shows how incredible his longevity is. You would not blame him for now deciding that he wants a new challenge. He has cleared conquered Paris, and will be a club legend forever, no matter what happens.
With two years still remaining on Marquinhos' contract, PSG are still within their rights to fetch a fee, despite his older age, especially if it comes from the Middle East. Let's see.
