After the win over FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League at the Parc Des Prices on Tuesday night, PSG have provided its supporters with an update on the injuries to Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos.
It is safe to say that PSG's 4-2 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League came at a great cost to the team, and overall it was a bitter night despite the statement victory.
Indeed so. As we know, winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruptured his ACL during the game, and his 26/27 season is now over, in what is an absolutely devastating blow to him, PSG, and the Georgia national team.
Unfortunately, he was not the only casualty on the injury front. Far from it actually. Forward Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos also both went off with injuries - the former in the first half, and the latter at the same time as Kvaratskhelia.
Well, although near as bad as the injury to the Georgian, there is more suboptimal news, as PSG have confirmed that both players are set to be sidelined for the coming weeks with thigh injuries, leaving manager Luis Enrique pretty light across the pitch.
Should these injuries keep them out until the November international break, they would be set to miss games against Lyon (home), Le Havre (away), Villarreal (away), and Troyes (home).
Definitely far from ideal to be without those two for the games against Lyon and Villarreal in particular. It is well documented that PSG have good depth, but they have not been able to step up so far this season. The starters had to come on and save the day against RC Strasbourg last weekend, and well, there will be no Dembele to do so on this occasion.
This is where the summer signings will need to show why the money was invested in them. We will almost certainly see Ferran Torres leading the line - he missed three big chances against his former club on Tuesday. That will need to improve in the coming games.
Meanwhile, with Desire Doue likely moving to the left hand side, this could be the opportunity for Maghnes Akliouche to claim his place on the right side of the attack. At the back, this is a big opportunity for Ilya Zabaryni to strike a partnership with Willian Pacho, and show why he could be the long term replacement for the skipper in that position.
Very tough day for PSG fans, who should still be basking in the glory of a great win and three points. Sadly, the injuries are the big talking point across the fanbase and media. A great shame.
