PSG beat Villarreal CF in the Champions League, a stunning match full of goals and celebrations for the Parisian club.
Paris Saint-Germain faced Villarreal CF (0-6) in the Champions League, and with this such a lopsided win, the Parisian club once again demonstrates its positive performance at the start of this season.
PSG arrived at Estadio de la Ceramica with 10 unbeaten matches, still top of the standings in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Although the Rouge et Bleu face a crisis due to key player injuries, they have managed to stay in first place.
For its part, Villarreal has struggled much more to stay afloat. The Groguets have managed only 5 wins since the season began, remain in 9th place in the La Liga standings, and, after the loss to PSG, are in 29th place in the Champions League.
Coach Luis Enrique's squad started the match well. The Parisian club scored first in under 10 minutes, with Joao Neves scoring after a Villarreal defensive error.
The fans celebrated, and before they could stop, Desire Doue capitalized on an opposing mistake and charged at the goal, scoring the second in the 12th minute. The cherry on top came with Senny Mayulu's goal just a minute after Doue's.
With three goals in under fifteen minutes, Villarreal's spirits fell sharply; they were overwhelmed and upset, but there was no time to breathe as Fabian Ruiz scored the fourth in the 17th minute.
He tried once more but missed, while PSG kept the pace. The opponent pressed and had its moments of danger, but could achieve little in the first half.
The second half of the match mirrored the first. In the stands at Villarreal, empty spaces were already visible; the fans had abandoned the stadium, disappointed.
Inigo Perez made the first change in his squad in the 46th minute, and a minute later they came very close to scoring the first goal, but Fabian scored in the 50th minute with an assist from Vitinha, making it his second goal.
Without losing focus, the Parisians kept scoring, and Luis Enrique made changes in the 60th minute: Mayulu came off for Mika Godts, and Ferran Torres came on for Maghnes Akliouche. Villarreal also made changes.
Matvey Safonov made a good save, and Luis Enrique made his final change to rest the starters: Achraf Hakimi came off, David Boly came on; Quentin Ndjantou came on for Doue; and Vitinha came off, replaced by Lucas Beraldo.
Despite the opponent's progress, Boly, PSG's top 17-year-old prospect, scored the match-winning goal in the 78th minute. The team celebrated in a big way.
The match was terribly painful for Villarreal. The media had already speculated that fans were unhappy with coach Inigo Perez's progress, and with this loss, he will likely face much more scrutiny.
Paris Saint-Germain will play its next Ligue 1 match on Nov. 7, facing ESTAC Troyes before the international break. After the break, it will face OGC Nice on Nov. 21 and AS Roma on Nov. 25.
