PSG vs. Lyon could be postponed amid expected protests in Paris, with the match potentially moving to Monday night, according to L'Équipe.
With new protests expected in Paris this weekend, the Sunday night match between PSG and Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Princes could be postponed. According to L'Équipe, the game would be played Monday night.
The issue had been under discussion earlier in the week, before Tuesday's PSG vs. FC Barcelona match. Given France's delicate social and political climate and the numerous demonstrations in Paris since last weekend, holding a match at the Parc des Princes has become a real question mark.
While the PSG vs. Barcelona match was played without incident on Tuesday night, the situation will be different in the next game.
According to reports, the Paris police prefecture has asked the Professional Football League (LFP) to postpone the PSG vs. Lyon match, scheduled for this Sunday at 8:45 p.m. at the Parc des Princes, corresponding to Matchday 8 of Ligue 1.
Le Parisien reported the news, and RMC Sport confirmed it, saying talks are underway four days before the match.
According to L'Équipe, the match is likely to be played Monday night at 8:45 p.m. instead of Sunday night. The game would therefore coincide with the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, as it did last year, when Marseille vs. PSG was played while Ousmane Dembélé was honored. However, the match was moved up to 8 p.m. instead of 8:45 p.m.
On Monday, the day before the Champions League match against FC Barcelona, Luis Enrique was asked about how the current situation could disrupt preparations for the game. "I'm not the right person to talk about that. I'm here to talk about soccer. It's clear we don't like this kind of violence," he explained.
He also said he "wasn't afraid" and hoped "the match would take place under normal conditions." No incidents were reported around the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.
But on Sunday, the context will be different, since another major sporting event is scheduled in Paris: an NFL game between the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Stade de France at 2:30 p.m. Law enforcement will be mobilized to ensure security around the game north of the capital.
Therefore, postponing PSG vs. Olympique Lyon seems, at first glance, more plausible than postponing PSG vs. Barcelona, which is played on a weekday afternoon. For now, the final decision on a possible postponement of PSG vs. Lyon remains pending, four days before the match.
