As PSG won their second consecutive UEFA Super Cup final, against another Premier League side in Aston Villa, here are the key performers from the night.

On Wednesday evening, PSG got their new season off to best possible start by defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in Salzburg.

Truth be told, it was a hard fought win. Unai Emery's side created enough chances to win a couple of games, despite having a very depleted squad to choose from, so a massive credit to them.

So, who were the key performers that helped PSG get over the line against what was and is clearly a very strong opponent.

It would be amiss not to start the first goalscorer, Khicha Kvaratskhelia. But it was not just his goal - seconds before his striker his excellent footwork had set up a chance, and he was consistently at it with his close control throughout the evening.

The World Cup - of which Georgia and subsequently the 25-year old were not a part of - taking up so much of our consciousness has perhaps made some of us forget just how good a player he is. And now, PSG have them at their disposal with a full summer off.

Elsewhere, Matvey Safonov had a very good game between the sticks. As touched on earlier, Villa played very well and created a number of chances, so he had to be on red alert and made a number of saves.

With the club heavily linked to Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, and the investment made on Lucas Chevalier, there was pressure on Safonov to deliver, and well, it is safe to say he did exactly that.

To finish things off, a mention for Warren Zaire-Emery. This was a big opportunity for him to stake his claim for the forthcoming season, and he certainly did so. In the second half he made an immense to block a shot that was certainly, at the very least on target. He was again very cultured with the ball too, completing 2/3 accurate long balls and having 65 touches of the ball.

He will have been disappointed to get so few minutes at the World Cup, but that can benefit Luis Enrique and PSG in two ways. Firstly, he will be fresher than he otherwise would have been, and secondly, he will be completely fired up to make sure the same does not happen under new France manager, Zinedine Zidane.

So, there we have it - Kvaratskhelia, Safonov and Zaire-Emery, the three stand out performers in Salzburg on Wednesday night. Great work.
