According to a report from a very highly credible source, two PSG players are closing in on a deal to swap the Parc Des Princes for Anfield this summer window.
On Sunday evening, PSG lost 1-0 to RC Lens in the Trophee des Champions, in what was overall a pretty mundane display from Luis Enrique's usually excellent side.
It should however be caveated by the fact that the team were a little short for the game. New signings, forwards Mika Godts and Ferran Torres, were not registered in time for the game, whilst wantaway forwards Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye were not named in the squad. So you didn't have the new players ready, and the potentially outgoing players were not involved either.
Well, as it happens, there appears to be quite a big development on the latter. Indeed so, as highly reputable and highly reliable UK based ITK, Paul O Keefe has said that he was told last night (late on Monday, the 17th of August) that Barcola and Mbaye are "likely to complete" moves to Premier League side Liverpool.
This was after saying that "some dominoes likely to fall at Liverpool first in my opinion" regarding Tottenham Hotspur's interest in winger Savio and importantly in this situation, Cody Gakpo.
In the same thread, O Keefe was asked if (the deal to sign) Gakpo gets done first (ahead of Savio), and answered with "could well be." Now, that suggests a deal for Gakpo to Spurs is close, after having suggested dominoes at Liverpool fall first.
So, in short: if Gakpo gets done soon, Barcola and Mbaye to Liverpool could get done even sooner. It all feels like it is getting closer and closer now. For those who don't know about O Keefe, he is an incredibly reliable insider who reports on Spurs - and this deal is certainly related to Spurs. So, we can take it as true until proven otherwise.
Very interesting indeed. As said a number of times before, it feels best for all parties that these deals happen. We know that Enrique has reiterated how he only wants committed players at the club. If those players do not want to be at PSG, that's fine, but the best thing is to move them on.
For the interests of PSR, balancing the books, etc, it will be interesting to see if - assuming the deals go through - they are done separately, or as an official double signing of, for example let's say 180 million Euros. Either way, let's hope this is confirmed as soon as possible.
