Fabian Ruiz has made his case for the 2026 Ballon d'Or after winning the Champions League with PSG and the World Cup with Spain. He also dreams of returning to Real Betis.

The 2026 Ballon d'Or will be awarded in October. After winning the Champions League with PSG for the second straight season, Fabian Ruiz also enjoyed a stellar summer. With Spain, the Parisian won the World Cup, giving him a strong case for the prestigious individual trophy.

Fabian Ruiz recently extended his contract with PSG. Now tied to the Parisian club until June 2028, the number 8 also has an option included in his new deal that could extend his contract until 2029. Thus, Fabian Ruiz could remain in Paris for several more years. However, he hasn't ruled out a return to his boyhood club one day.

Fabian Ruiz Eyes Ballon d'Or After Historic Season With PSG and Spain

Speaking at a press conference with Spain, Fabian Ruiz was asked about Real Betis. The Andalusian made no secret of his desire to play for the Seville club again one day. "I've always said it, I try to watch all their matches, and I'm happy with their good results. I'm a Betis supporter, everyone knows that. I'd like to finish my career here; it's not the right time, but it will surely happen in the future," the midfielder revealed.

Also asked about his first victory in a Seville derby dating back to 2018, Fabian Ruiz opened up. “I have great memories of it. It was my first derby win, my first goal; it was Epiphany… It was magical; I hope we can do as well tomorrow,” declared the PSG player, who just a few months ago stated that he felt very comfortable at the Parisian club and in the French capital, particularly with Luis Enrique.

“I’m very happy with this season and what I’ve achieved; feeling important, both at PSG and with the national team, means a lot to me. It’s true that the Ballon d’Or is a wonderful award, a trophy that every player dreams of winning. I’m delighted that people are talking about me and that my work is being recognized. Now, I’m going to try to rank as high as possible and… why not dream about it?” he told AS.

It is logically difficult for journalists and players to vote for Fabian as the winner, since the award is usually given to players with more media coverage. From our perspective, Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are the favorites.

PSG, for its part, does not appear to be campaigning for the Spanish midfielder, but it will likely make an effort for Ousmane Dembele or Kvaratskhelia.
