Central midfielder Renato Sanches returns to Paris Saint-Germain after a season on loan at Panathinaikos FC.
Paris Saint-Germain is known for having great players on its squad, although many of them cannot achieve a starting role and must be loaned out to seek more playing time elsewhere.
This is the case for PSG central midfielder Renato Sanches, who had been loaned out last summer after he had no place in the plans of the club's coach, Luis Enrique.
Sanches was loaned to Panathinaikos FC in Greece, where he played the 2025/2026 season. But the Greek club did not renew Sanches, so now he will have to find a place at PSG or look for another team.
After suffering injuries that prevented the 28-year-old from giving his best, Sanches could not convince Panathinaikos to negotiate his transfer.
The Greek club has already issued its official statement and, through its official social media, has wished Sanches good luck in his new stage and thanked him for the time he spent with them.
The news that the central midfielder would leave Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium is not new; it was reported by the media more than a month ago when Italian journalist Nicolo Schira assured that he would return to Paris after a disappointing season.
Sanches participated in 24 matches, scoring only one goal and one assist in the 2025/2026 season.
With a contract valid until June 2027, the Portuguese would return to PSG to be on the bench, because the current starting central midfielders are essential and rarely rotated in important matches, so Sanches will have to seek an exit.
Apparently, Sanches will be put immediately on the transfer market upon his arrival at PSG for a permanent sale, and the one who was once the Golden Boy winner will now have to find another club that suits his abilities.
But Sanches is not the only loaned player who will return to Parc des Princes, as other players, like Gabriel Moscardo, a central defender loaned to Sporting de Braga, will also return after failing to meet expectations this season.
And although several media outlets reported that Braga wanted to retain the Brazilian, ESPN Brazil assures that this is not the case and that he will not return to PSG.
Forward Randal Kolo Muani also returns after having been loaned for one season to Tottenham Hotspur, although the Frenchman will likely be signed by Juventus.
The Serie A club is very interested in having him on its squad again, which would help him return to his prime after not performing at his best in the Premier League.
