PSG returned to the top of Ligue 1 with a 2-0 win over Lyon at the Parc des Princes, thanks to goals from substitutes Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts.

In the closing match of Matchday 8 of Ligue 1, PSG hosted Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Princes. In a match they dominated, the capital club had to wait for Senny Mayulu and Mika Godts to break the deadlock.

The Belgian international found the Parisian academy graduate, who opened the scoring with a magnificent strike from outside the box before PSG's number 22 opened his account with the Rouge et Bleu a few minutes later.

With this win (2-0), PSG reclaims sole possession of first place in Ligue 1. Speaking to Ligue 1+, Senny Mayulu reflected on this important win for the Parisians.

He said, "It feels good. I'm happy I helped the team reach that goal. The coach showed confidence in me when I came on. We played well; I think we finished the match strong. The win is what matters; after that, it doesn't matter who scores; we're happy."

"We're back in first place. My goal? I play football, really, like everyone else. When you have the opportunity to shoot, you take it, and thank God it went in," Mayulu concluded.

Mayulu, like Warren Zaïre-Emery, is one of Luis Enrique's most important Swiss Army knives, a versatile player who can cover multiple positions.

The Spanish coach has used him as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger, false nine, and even right-back. He can fill more roles than Zaïre-Emery, who also regularly features in midfield, at right-back, or at left-back.

Although Mayulu has scored just one goal this season, he has once again shown that he can deliver when he steps onto the pitch. Last season, he scored seven goals and provided five assists in 46 appearances.

The season before that, he recorded five goals and three assists in 29 appearances, including a goal in the UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan.

At just 20 years old and without widespread global media recognition, Mayulu is unafraid of the biggest moments. For years, he has shown remarkable maturity in his play.

Luis Enrique has already deployed him as a left winger this season, and following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's recent ACL injury, Mayulu will likely step up and compete with both Mika Godts and Magnhes Akliouche for that position.

In the match against Lyon, Mayulu didn't start, as Akliouche was named in the starting lineup. Godts also started on the bench, but the Belgian eventually came on and scored, suggesting fierce competition for playing time up front.

That said, as mentioned earlier, Mayulu can also cover other positions. While deploying him at right-back isn't ideal, he's delivered positive results as a central midfielder.
