Vitinha reflects on PSG’s 4-2 win over Manchester City, expressing pride in the team and explaining why the Parisian side is on the right track.
Vitinha, named Player of the Match in the thrilling clash between PSG and Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, spoke to Canal+ after the game to express his pride in the team and the win.
PSG defeated Manchester City 4-2, with Erling Haaland scoring a brace to reduce the deficit. Meanwhile, the Parisians secured the win with goals from Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, and Magnhes Akliouche.
When asked about how much fun they had on the pitch despite facing some difficulties during the match, and what conclusions could be drawn from the performance, Vitinha replied:
“We take a lot of positives from this. It's true that we enjoyed ourselves more in the first half playing like that than in the second, but that's normal. We were playing away from home, in a difficult stadium, against a fantastic team, and the second half was more complicated. Our first-half performance was exceptional; we could even have scored more goals. But, well, we also know how to support each other and stay positive.”
The interviewer quickly asked whether they managed to achieve that together, to which the Portuguese player said:
“Yes, we complement each other well, and that's also important. We've done it several times in previous seasons, but yes, it was a difficult match, as I said. There is a lot, a lot of pride in this team. Once again, we showed that we are a great team. We have to keep going like this. This is only the beginning. We're on the right track, so it's a long season.”
The interviewer then asked how, as Vitinha had just said, this message was being sent to all of Europe, with an exceptional first half followed by a second half that was a constant battle. The midfielder said:
“Of course, these are three important points on this journey through the league phase. As I said, we want to play the entire match the way we did in the first half, but that's impossible. There are many positives and also some negatives to improve on, which is normal. As I said, we're on the right track, and I think most of it is positive, which is a great result. As I said, I'm very, very proud of this team, of everyone, the players who came on and the players who started. Once again, we showed that we're a real team, and that fills me with joy.”
Finally, Vitinha was asked about the slight deflection involving Warren Zaïre-Emery on the goal he scored, to which the Portuguese player replied:
“He did it on purpose. He looked over his shoulder, which is important for a midfielder. He had a great view, let the ball run through, and I finished. It was perfect.”
