After the honorary kickoff by Matuidi and Menez, PSG kicked off. For once, they did not play short but with a fast attack that was countered in the 1st minute. Mendes ate up the space in front of him and found Doue on the opposite side, whose left-footed shot was deflected just wide in the 2nd minute. Paris started the match very well and pressed hard with success, but Marseille managed a first spell of possession that came to nothing in the 6th minute. Vitinha escaped down the left and immediately passed to Barcola, who infiltrated the box and then attempted a curled shot off target in the 8th minute.
The first flashpoint in the match came when Mayulu was very strangely fouled outside the box. The referee said play on, and Vitinha tackled Balerdi hard on the counter; he was cautioned in the 9th minute. The Argentine was treated, and the Portuguese got off very lightly. PSG opened the scoring on the following play. Doue dropped deep and released Nuno Mendes in behind, who then passed to Dembele to score into the empty net for a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.
Marseille came very close to equalizing immediately. Emerson crossed to the near post, and Gouiri arrived ahead of Pacho, but Safonov was solid on his line to push the ball away in the 15th minute. Paris had a fabulous counter-attack opportunity, and Dembele was found on the left. He drove forward but missed his final pass in the box in the 19th minute. With a superb pass, Mayulu sent Barcola through on goal, and the attacker found the post, but he was offside in the 22nd minute.
The match was tense and even, with Marseille not letting up at all. A free kick into the box was cleared in the 24th minute. Marquinhos intercepted and released Barcola very well. He held it up and then passed to Doue in the center, who could not get a proper shot off in the 26th minute. Dembele dropped deep and drove forward. He managed to find Neves, who spread the play to Mayulu, but the pass was too slow in the 27th minute. Doue found himself on the right side of the box. He delayed and then shot low, and De Lange deflected it for a corner with his fingertips in the 32nd minute.
A Parisian move was superb, but Medina was intercepted by a whisker in front of Dembele, who was about to be found in the box, in the 35th minute. PSG doubled the lead through Dembele, the author of an absolutely brilliant move. He was found on the right, eliminated Balerdi, left Medina for dead with a shot fake, and then found the top corner with power to make it 2-0 in the 37th minute.
Marseille was a bit stunned, and Vitinha spread the play to Dembele on the right. He attempted a strong curling shot that missed the target in the 43rd minute. Doue also got in behind on a pass from Mendes, but Balerdi saved his team in the 45th minute. Marseille was in trouble, and Medina found himself alone 25 meters from the PSG goal. He attempted a completely miscued shot in the 45th+3 minute. At halftime, Paris was logically ahead after an excellent first half.
Marseille brought on Paixao at the start of the second half for Nwaneri and tried to hold possession from the 47th minute. Barcola accelerated down the left and left the defense behind. His cross was cleared to Neves, who shot hard, but De Lange intervened in the 50th minute. Mayulu and Doue combined on the right side of the box. The latter managed to shoot and found the far post in the 50th minute.
Mendes stopped Greenwood and then launched a counter. He finished with a powerful cross into the 6-yard box, but Doue was just a fraction short of connecting at the far post in the 54th minute. Marseille tried to respond. Paixao headed the ball in front of Zaire-Emery, but Safonov stretched out perfectly to save in the 56th minute. Dembele released Barcola on the left. He cut inside and shot hard off the post in the 58th minute.
Emerson made a huge run and passed to Weah at the end of it. Weah shot well, but Marquinhos blocked with purpose in the 60th minute. After Kvara came on, Nuno Mendes made a fantastic run and then gave a superb pass to Barcola. He rounded the keeper but could not manage to get his shot on target afterward in the 64th minute. Paris made it 3-0 immediately. Neves went into the box and crossed, and Medina deflected the ball into his own net for a 3-0 score in the 65th minute.
The 4-0 was scored immediately and was magnificent. Barcola played around on the left and passed to Dembele in the center. He sent a chipped pass to Kvara, who volleyed superbly into the top corner to make it 4-0 in the 67th minute.
It was a party at the Parc des Princes. Mayulu did good work outside the box and passed to Lee Kang-in, who unleashed a terrible low shot to beat De Lange for a 5-0 lead in the 74th minute.
The end of the match was marked by many poor challenges from Marseille. Mendes still got forward to serve Ramos in the box, but he was blocked at the last moment in the 85th minute. The following corner saw Lee find Ramos, but his header was off target in the 86th minute. From a well-worked free kick by Ramos, Lee delivered a superb ball, but Kvara hit the bar in the 89th minute.
On the following action, Nuno Mendes unleashed a thunderous shot onto the crossbar after a nice move by Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia in the 90th minute. Mendes made his mark again with another attempt saved by the keeper, but he had used his hand to control the ball in the 92nd minute.
