Winner at Lens on Wednesday night (0-2), PSG was able to count on an impregnable Matvey Safonov, who was unquestionably the man of the match. The Russian keeps impressing in the French capital.

Lucas Chevalier's backup at the start of the season, after the departures of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Safonov, is no longer a substitute.

This is not new, as the Russian has earned his starting spot since December. The former Krasnodar goalkeeper also assumed his new status in the Champions League with accomplished performances against Chelsea, Liverpool, and, more recently, Bayern Munich. Safonov has not been left behind in Ligue 1.

On Wednesday at Lens, the 27-year-old goalkeeper delivered another breathtaking performance, frustrating Sima, Thauvin, Edouard, and the Lens attackers as a whole for 90 minutes. Enough to surprise PSG supporters, who are endlessly amazed by the incredible level their Russian wall has reached.

"The doubts I had in the fall about this PSG were about the goalkeeper position, to help Paris when needed. The Russian has convinced everyone. Strong," a user said on X.

"The more matches go by, the more Safonov reassures his defense. The Russian goalkeeper has perfectly seized his chance this season," another user wrote.

"Who remembers the time when everyone made fun of him? Today, he is the starting goalkeeper of the best team in Europe... and is about to play a Champions League final. Safonov commands respect," a PSG fan said.

Compliments pour in about Safonov, increasingly recognized for his true value after his very high-level performances. With a goalkeeper at this level, it makes you wonder if PSG really needs to strengthen in this area of the game next summer. Luis Campos and Luis Enrique may have some headaches answering that question.
