PSG strengthens its medical department by signing a seasoned physiotherapist from Benfica, bringing over 16 years of experience and a deep understanding of player well-being.
In complete discretion, Paris Saint-Germain strengthened its medical staff during the winter transfer window by acquiring a long-time physiotherapist from Benfica.
No, PSG did not sign the new Joao Neves during the January transfer window. But once again, PSG has dipped into Benfica, this time to strengthen the medical staff of its first team. As revealed a few days ago by the Portuguese sports daily Record, PSG has enlisted Pedro Barreiras, a physiotherapist who had worked for 16 years at SL Benfica, where he notably worked alongside Joao Neves, Goncalo Ramos, Renato Sanches, and even Angel Di Maria.
Pedro Barreiras has solid experience and has seen almost everything at Benfica. He first was the physiotherapist for the club's athletics section (2009-2016) before working for its soccer section: first with the U19 team (2016-2018), then with the reserve team (2018-2019), and finally since 2019 with the first team, now coached by Jose Mourinho.
"More than a decade and a half of triumphs, defeats, enriching experiences, tears, smiles, and, above all, love for this club. SL Benfica was not just a workplace; it was my home, my family, an integral part of my identity, and my greatest pride, as a professional and lifelong supporter. I grew up here, professionally and personally. I lived unforgettable moments here, felt the weight and pride of this emblem, and learned the true meaning of commitment, responsibility, and passion. I leave with a light heart, with eternal gratitude and the certainty that Benfica will always remain in my heart. For those who live in Benfica never truly leave it," wrote Pedro Barreiras a few days ago in his farewell message to the Lisbon club.
On his LinkedIn profile, Pedro Barreiras confirmed five days ago that he had just joined PSG as a physiotherapist for the men's first team, where he will be able to work daily with many compatriots and several other Portuguese speakers. For now, his name does not yet appear in the PSG medical staff list on the club's official website, but it should not be long.
