PSG's CEO unveils the ideal capacity for their future stadium.

With the future of the Parc des Princes back in the spotlight following the municipal elections, Paris Saint-Germain CEO Victoriano Melero addressed the club's future stadium on the PAUSE podcast, revealing the venue's ideal capacity.

Newly appointed Paris mayor Emmanuel Gregoire wants to reopen dialogue with PSG as quickly as possible in hopes of selling them the Parc des Princes. Discussions between the parties are expected soon, but PSG is not looking to rush and continues to study the feasibility of building a brand-new stadium in Massy or Poissy.

In an exchange of more than an hour with Alexandre Mars on his PAUSE podcast, PSG CEO Victoriano Melero addressed the hot-button issue of the Parc des Princes and the club's future stadium. The interview was published two weeks ago, before Emmanuel Gregoire's election as mayor of Paris.

A Possible Departure From the Parc des Princes Acknowledged

"Do I see PSG somewhere other than the Parc des Princes? When you are CEO of PSG, you are obligated to look at all options -- I have no choice," Melero said. "So today, we have worked a lot, we have said it publicly, we want to own our stadium. Until now, that has not been possible with the Parc des Princes. We will see what happens after the elections. In the meantime, we have worked on it and have two very solid projects in Massy and Poissy. Frankly, these are great projects."

Estimating that in the Parc des Princes file "the ball is in the court" of the Paris city hall, Melero explained why PSG had been forced to work for several months on a potential departure from its historic stadium: "Do I really picture PSG somewhere else? Yes. I am forced to project myself. I gave you the example of Southampton earlier -- last in the Premier League in 2024-25 and receiving 120 million euros in domestic TV rights. So yes, we will be optimistic, and we hope the media rights situation will improve in France, but even if that were the case, it will not happen overnight, and we must continue to compete with the other European players."

Melero Believes PSG Could Fill a Stadium of 70,000 to 75,000 Seats

Melero also answered another important question regarding PSG's future stadium -- whether it involves a renovated Parc des Princes or a brand-new venue -- namely, what capacity it should have. "In an ideal world, I would say 70,000 to 75,000 seats. I think with that capacity we can sell out every match," the PSG executive said.

The Parc des Princes currently holds 48,000 spectators, with 5,000 seats reserved for hospitality, the famous executive boxes. Melero also explained that of the 180 million euros in matchday revenue generated during the 2024-25 season, approximately 70 million euros came from the boxes. In other words, 10% of the stadium's capacity accounts for roughly 40% of matchday revenues, hence PSG's desire for a larger venue with even more executive boxes.

Only 60,000 Seats for a Renovated Parc des Princes?

In the renovation and expansion project for the Parc des Princes envisioned about a decade ago by Jean-Claude Blanc alongside Emmanuel Gregoire -- then first deputy mayor of Paris -- the idea was to increase the Parc des Princes' capacity from 48,000 to approximately 60,000 seats, with the stands demolished and rebuilt in a more vertical configuration and closer to the pitch.

Regarding PSG's future stadium project, several figures have circulated in recent months, some exceeding 80,000 seats. If Victoriano Melero is to be believed, the capacity PSG has in mind is somewhat lower -- but still significantly higher than the Parc des Princes' current capacity and even above that of the Stade Velodrome and its 67,000 seats.
