Beyond their historic 2025 sextuple, PSG eyes more glory. Ousmane Dembele and the team are nominated for the prestigious Laureus Awards in Madrid.
PSG and Ousmane Dembele haven't yet finished riding their historic 2025 wave and could soon receive a prestigious new trophy in Madrid.
Ballon d'Or, Golden Boy, Globe Soccer Awards, The Best FIFA... PSG swept almost everything at the football ceremonies at the end of 2025 following its historic 2024-2025 season and its sextuple: Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, and Trophée des Champions.
But while the year 2026 is already well underway, PSG could still be rewarded for its incredible 2025 year next month in Madrid at the prestigious Laureus ceremony, which will be held on April 20. A ceremony that has rewarded the world's best sportspeople for 26 years across different categories.
Ousmane Dembele is thus among the 6 nominees in the prestigious category of male sportsperson of the year alongside Carlos Alcaraz (tennis), Mondo Duplantis (athletics), Marc Marquez (MotoGP), Tadej Pogacar (cycling), and Jannik Sinner (tennis). Desire Doue is among the 6 nominees in the world breakthrough of the year category, notably including Lando Norris, crowned Formula 1 world champion in 2025.
PSG is not left out since Luis Enrique's team is also among the 6 nominees in the world team of the year category alongside the English women's football team, crowned European champions last summer, the European Ryder Cup team (Golf), the McLaren Formula 1 team, the Indian women's cricket team or the Oklahoma City Thunder, which won the NBA in 2025 for only the second time in its history.
Regarding the voting process, the lists of nominees are compiled from votes by more than 1,000 sports media outlets from more than 70 countries. The Laureus World Sports Academy (a unique group of sports legends) then votes for the winners in each preselected category. Among the members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, there are nine notable former footballers: Cafu, Del Piero, Desailly, Puyol, Figo, Giggs, Gullit, Raul, and Totti.
In May 2023, Lionel Messi won the male sportsperson of the year prize at the Laureus Awards, mainly thanks to his victory with Argentina at the 2022 World Cup a few months earlier. The ceremony took place in Paris, and during his speech, the Argentine had no word for PSG, with whom he was still under contract at the time.
