Once sidelined, Lucas Beraldo's midfield reinvention has sparked contract extension talks. His tactical shift is revitalizing his PSG career.
Lucas Beraldo was on his way out of PSG just a month ago. Now, he is discussing an extension due to a position change that turned everything upside down.
He is one of the few Luis Campos recruits who did not satisfy PSG. Arriving with the label of a clean central defender and king of distribution, Beraldo, 22, clearly struggled every time he was deployed in that position.
Last in line in that sector of play, the Brazilian suffered from the signings of Lucas Hernandez and Illia Zabarnyi in particular. As a result, this season, he has played only nine minutes in the Champions League, a sign that Luis Enrique does not really count on him.
But this truth is changing because the former Sao Paulo player is revealing himself in the midfield. In front of the defense, he can showcase his clean technique and serve as a relay, giving key elements a breather in a sector where PSG is running on fumes with its regulars.
It was in this position that he was thrown in against Liverpool, and where he has just played the last three Ligue 1 matches with PSG, each time as a starter. Enrique acknowledged it; it is a rebirth for Beraldo.
"He had no possibility to play in central defense, he has the qualities and the performances to play in midfield, I am happy that he can evolve in this position," the Spanish coach said about the 22-year-old player, whose reconversion changes everything. Indeed, the player under contract until 2028 has been preparing his affairs to empty his locker this summer.
But now, everything has changed, and his attachment to the club, his good behavior, and his ability to help out in midfield have evolved his situation. According to information from the Paris Team, a contract extension is now under consideration to secure his future at PSG and to push back offers from Brazil or other European clubs.
An extension until 2030 is now being studied to give a second wind to the career of Beraldo at PSG.
