Despite Atletico Madrid's interest, Lee Kang-in shines amidst PSG squad fatigue, potentially extending his Parisian stay as contract talks progress.

Started during PSG's victory against Le Havre this weekend (0-1), Lee Kang-in seems far from the most athletically fit player at PSG.

In recent weeks, PSG players seem to be physically affected, having not had much rest between the historic 2024-2025 season and the 2025-2026 campaign. This is reflected in the performances of Luis Enrique's players on the field.

But in the midst of the still uneven fitness levels of the PSG squad, Lee Kang-in is one of the sprightliest elements of this late winter period, according to L'Equipe.

Hit in the thigh during the Intercontinental Cup on Dec. 17, the South Korean international missed a month and a half of competition. But since his return from injury on Feb. 1, he exudes a fine athletic impression that stands in contrast to the weariness of several teammates, per the cited outlet.

Against Le Havre, the former Mallorca player maintained a constant intensity and rhythm for the hour he spent on the field.

Arriving at PSG in the summer of 2023, Lee has never established himself as an essential cog in Luis Enrique's team. He rarely completely misses the mark, but he also almost rarely stands out, according to L'Equipe.

"He is above all a complementary player, with weak impact. That was not quite the idea when sporting advisor Luis Campos went to get him from Mallorca for 22 million euros. His contribution has been judged below expectations internally, particularly in his ability to make a difference in one-on-ones and to create goal-scoring situations."

However, his positive mentality is appreciated at the club.

This winter, Atletico Madrid came back into the picture, but the deal fell through. On one hand, because Luis Enrique closed the door, not wanting to lose a mid-season element always ready to answer the call when called upon.

On the other hand, because Atletico, confident in their ability to convince the player but limited in their means, were counting on a loan with an option which had no chance of being accepted by Paris, assures L'Equipe.

"While Lee is linked to PSG until June 2028, consideration is underway to extend his contract. The interested party has not yet given an answer. Last summer, he asked questions about his status – and his future – despite the calls from La Liga. The coming months will be decisive."

The club would like him to gain in influence and regularity; they have let him know. Apparently, his winger-crosser profile does not quite fit Luis Enrique's game project, but he can be useful and has no equivalent in the squad.

In continuity with what he was producing before his injury, he is perhaps going through his most interesting period in the Parisian jersey, concludes L'Equipe.
