PSG makes history by eliminating Bayern Munich with a 1-1 draw. The Parisians will face Arsenal in the Champions League final on May 30.
Quickly ahead thanks to Ousmane Dembele, Paris Saint-Germain silenced Bayern Munich to hold a 1-1 draw. The Parisians will face Arsenal for a second straight European title.
After the first-leg festival, this Bayern-PSG clash was extremely uncertain on paper. A wild start from the Germans was expected, but it was ultimately Paris that struck from the outset.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia beat the defense with speed and served Dembele, who shot past Manuel Neuer. The Bavarian reaction was much more timid than in the first leg.
Michael Olise and Luis Diaz were well contained by the Parisian defense. Only Jamal Musiala threatened Matvey Safonov. The Russian goalkeeper had a firm hand to block a shot from the young playmaker (44th minute).
On the other side, Neuer was not to be outdone with a decisive save on a header from Joao Neves (33rd minute).
The main scare for Paris was a handball by the Portuguese midfielder in his own box, but no penalty was called. After the break, the best chances were ultimately Parisian. Neuer was solid with several saves, notably against Doue.
Technically, too imprecise, Bayern hit a wall against PSG's solid defense. Harry Kane found the net with a powerful strike a few seconds from the end, but it was too late for qualification.
With this draw, PSG secures its place in the final in Budapest on May 30. A rare feat at the European level, as is retaining the Champions League trophy. Arsenal will be the final obstacle to prevent the Parisians from joining Sacchi's AC Milan (1989-1990) and Zidane's Real Madrid (2016-2017-2018).
