Club poised to acquire historic stadium as City Council greenlights negotiations. Discussions are reigniting over PSG's beloved Parc des Princes home.
The Council of Paris has rendered its verdict: Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire is authorized to negotiate the sale of the Parc des Princes with the PSG board. A door finally opened to the venue's acquisition by its occupying club, which says it is open to resuming discussions.
Discussions between Paris Saint-Germain and the Paris mayor's office were completely broken off until the end of Anne Hidalgo's term.
But very quickly, her successor Emmanuel Gregoire, elected last March 22, confirmed he wanted to do everything possible to ensure the Parc des Princes remains the home of the capital club. Since then, the Qatari leadership has awaited the Council of Paris's approval and continued its discussions with municipalities interested in hosting a new stadium.
But to the great delight of supporters attached to their history, the Council of Paris, convened this Tuesday night, approved the definitive sale of the Parc des Princes to PSG. The Parisian club noted the decision and said it is now "prepared to reopen discussions," according to the club's statement.
"Given the proposed guidelines and the historic link that unites the Club to its stadium, Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed to the Mayor of Paris that it is prepared to reopen discussions with the City. These discussions must be based on in-depth studies that will enable addressing all outstanding questions, a necessary step in assessing the feasibility and sustainability of a project. The proposal to integrate the Parc des Princes into a broader redevelopment program for the Porte de Saint-Cloud, led by the Mayor's Office, also constitutes a new avenue to explore."
"The conduct of the studies will involve ongoing dialogue with all stakeholders: close work with the City of Paris, as well as with the relevant local authorities and state services, in continuity with what has been implemented in Massy and Poissy by Paris Saint-Germain (...) Regardless of the outcome of the discussions, the guiding principle of Paris Saint-Germain remains clear: preparing for the Club's future and building a solid, sustainable, and unifying project with the territories concerned," the statement broadly indicates. The club's objective of renovating the Parc des Princes will align with the mayor's office project to redevelop the entire Porte de Saint-Cloud area.
