PSG is weighing a stadium buyout against a new build, with a 2027 decision looming.
The election of Emmanuel Gregoire as mayor of Paris has relaunched the stadium issue for PSG. A buyout of the Parc des Princes is once again possible, but the club is not ruling out the construction of a new venue. The final decision could wait a year.
Where will Paris Saint-Germain play in the future? At Poissy, at Massy, or at the Parc des Princes. Just a few months ago, PSG's leadership was determined to move. Guided by Anne Hidalgo, the Paris mayor's office refused to sell them the famous venue located in the Auteuil neighborhood.
The Parisians therefore toured the municipalities of Ile-de-France to identify a site for a new large stadium. The situation, however, has changed since March and the municipal elections. Successor to Hidalgo at the mayor's office, Gregoire is more open to a sale of the Parc des Princes.
Relations are flowing again between Parisian elected officials and PSG. Enough to abandon the project of a new stadium. Not quite. The option of a departure remains on the back burner for Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
This was confirmed by English journalist Ben Jacobs. Patience will be required of the Parisian leadership, which is giving itself until the summer of 2027 at the latest to choose between staying at the Parc or building a larger, more modern stadium than the current one.
"If an agreement is not found with the Paris mayor's office, PSG has several realistic options to build a new stadium close to their academy in Poissy or in Massy, Essonne, 15 kilometers south of Paris. There is a site available for a 90,000-seat stadium.
A decision on the PSG stadium is expected by the summer of 2027 at the latest," writes the journalist for the site GiveMeSport in an article. A way to be able to negotiate calmly with the mayor's office and find, by then, the best possible solution for the supporters attached to the Parc des Princes.
