Chilling "Nightmare" tifos and provocative banners electrified the stands as PSG dominated Marseille 5-0, delivering a stinging message.
The PSG vs. Marseille match (5-0) was a treat on the field and was very lively in the stands, with the Collectif Ultras Paris inspired before and during the encounter, with several banners, flags, and tifos displayed.
In addition to a mini-concert by Booba, which did not translate well on television due to a sound issue with the broadcaster, Sunday night's Le Classique was very lively in the stands. Before the PSG vs. Marseille match, the Collectif Ultras Paris displayed a magnificent "Ultras Paris Nightmare" animation, featuring a giant flag in the foreground and supporters wearing red and blue illuminated masks in the background. Numerous flares were also lit.
This giant tifo was a reference to the series "American Nightmare," which depicts an America consumed by rampant crime and overcrowded prisons, where the government legalizes all criminal activities, including murder, once a year for 12 hours.
Other displays also took place during the match in the Virage Auteuil, with a certain skill in circumventing potential sanctions from the LFP's stadium police. A flag depicting a Marseille delivery driver, obviously wearing a Chelsea tracksuit, was displayed. A delivery driver for the company DPD... no need to spell it out.
The PSG Ultras also displayed a flag showing several Marseille supporters transformed into rats reading a newspaper headline about PSG's historic 2024/25 season. A reference to a flag displayed by Marseille supporters against Liverpool last month before their 3-0 defeat. It showed the Beatles reading the front page of Le Provençal, the predecessor of La Provence.
In addition to these various flags, the Parisian supporters displayed several banners during the match, including two to mock the Marseille fans and their recent elimination from the Champions League, all with a little reference to Emmanuel Macron's "for sure." "Europe will tremble, for sure," and then "Elimination in the UCL, for sure," could thus be read in the Virage Auteuil.
Finally, the Parisian Ultras, who had lamented before the match the new travel ban for Marseille supporters to the Parc des Princes, also addressed the following message to the LFP on Sunday night: "Empty away section for the 'Classico,' symbol of your fiasco. Freedom for the Ultras."
The match was also interrupted for a few seconds around the 70th minute of play for chants deemed discriminatory. The match was eventually able to resume, but the LFP will likely sanction PSG and its supporters retroactively, at a minimum for the flares, but probably also for certain chants and flags.
