French media dissects PSG and Marseille's probable formations, revealing midfield dilemmas and defensive shifts for this crucial Ligue 1 clash.
For this fixture of the 21st Ligue 1 matchday, today's media agrees on the broad lines regarding the team lineups for this Sunday night's PSG vs. Marseille match. There is only one real unknown on the Parisian side, in midfield, with two consequences and a major doubt in the Marseille defense.
At the end of a week without a midweek match, which is rarely the case, PSG continues in Ligue 1 and, after a tricky trip to Strasbourg (2-1), hosting OM is on the schedule, a match never like any other that Paris must absolutely win in the title race. As last week, Luis Enrique will be without only three players, but two important ones with Hakimi and again Fabian Ruiz, and PSG's lineup against OM will therefore necessarily change.
In defense, no surprise is expected in PSG's lineup to face OM. Even though Chevalier was good in the Champions Trophy against Marseille (2-2, 2-1 on penalties), it is Safonov who should start in the Parisian goal, and he will be protected by what has been the standard defense for weeks: Zaire-Emery on the right, Marquinhos and Pacho in the center, and Nuno Mendes on the left.
It is rather in midfield that there is a spot to take, since Zaire-Emery is covering in defense, and Fabian Ruiz is absent. Vitinha will surely play as the holding midfielder, Neves should be the right-sided central midfielder, but the left-sided central midfielder position divides the press: L'Equipe sees Mayulu starting there, while Le Parisien leans toward Desire Doue.
The Parisian outlet then places Lee Kang-in on the right wing, while the sports newspaper assigns the position to Doue. For this PSG vs. OM, the press does not doubt the central attack with Dembele starting, nor on the left with Barcola. Although probably back, Kvara will only start on the bench.
PSG's lineup vs. Marseille according to the media: Safonov; Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos (c), Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Mayulu (or Doue); Doue (or Lee), Dembele, Barcola.
For OM, the lineup to face PSG should not be particularly full of surprises, but Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly preparing to attempt a move in his team's goal. While Rulli strings together blunders, it is backup goalkeeper De Lange, who performed well in the Coupe de France, who should start the match, according to today's press. In the first leg in September, however, the Argentine had been his team's best player.
Regarding the rest of OM's lineup, a four-man defense is expected, but the indispensable Aguerd, not at 100 percent, is not certain to be in it either, as the pair Medina/Balerdi is announced by the press in the center, with Weah on the right and Emerson on the left. In midfield, the double pivot should be composed of Timber and Hojbjerg, behind a line of three attacking players: Greenwood on the right, Nwaneri in the center, and Paixao on the left. Up front, Gouiri should be preferred over Aubameyang.
