New date set for PSG vs. Nantes as league balances fixture demands. Lens awaits a crucial decision.
PSG has requested a postponement of its match at Lens, which was initially scheduled between its two UEFA Champions League quarterfinal matches against Liverpool. While waiting to decide on that matter, the LFP has finally set the date for the PSG vs. Nantes match.
PSG has made its decision. Like Strasbourg, which qualified for the Conference League quarterfinals, PSG has asked the LFP to postpone its Ligue 1 match at Lens (Matchday 29), initially scheduled for Saturday, April 11, between its two Champions League quarterfinal matches against Liverpool (April 8 and 14). The news was revealed on Monday afternoon by L'Equipe.
This had been in the works for several days, and Lens, through Pierre Sage, has already made it known that it is against postponing the match against PSG. "We shouldn't have to suffer this. From the start and from the top of the pyramid, we disagree," the Lens coach said Friday night after Lens vs. Angers (5-1).
But despite Lens' disagreement, the final decision falls to the LFP, and the league does not need the opponents' agreement to postpone matches. According to L'Equipe, the LFP board of directors is set to meet on Thursday morning to decide the fate of Lens vs. PSG and Brest vs. Strasbourg. In the event of a postponement, May 13 (between Matchdays 33 and 34) appears to be the most likely date (unless PSG is eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals).
This season, the LFP has already ruled once in favor of PSG by postponing its match against Nantes, initially scheduled between its two Champions League round-of-16 matches against Chelsea. The LFP also announced Monday that this PSG vs. Nantes match will be played on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, one week before a potential Champions League semifinal first leg.
