Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard prioritizes crucial Premier League clash over PSG showdown.

Liverpool faces PSG in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday. A match that is not at all a priority for the Reds, who are lagging behind in the Premier League and in great danger.

Beaten by Brighton last week and swept aside by Manchester City in the FA Cup this weekend, Liverpool is in crisis. Arne Slot is on the hot seat ahead of the match against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal at the Parc des Princes.

A Liverpool win in the French capital would give the Dutch manager some breathing room, as the name of Xabi Alonso is already being mentioned insistently with next season in mind. Nevertheless, in the eyes of club legend Steven Gerrard, the two-legged matchup against PSG should not be a priority for Liverpool.

The former Reds captain believes the match against Fulham this weekend is the most important of the week. The reason: Liverpool's standing in the table, as the club is currently not in the top four qualifying for next season's Champions League. At this point, the Mersey club is five points behind Aston Villa and six points behind Manchester United.

"They've got to stick together, and they've got to try and grasp the opportunity, and put pressure on, the likes of Aston Villa and United from a league point of view, with the Fulham game, which I think is arguably just as important as the two Champions League games," the former England international said on TalkSport.

"If the owners and the executives see the gap to Villa and United growing, I am very afraid for Arne Slot's job. I don't want that to happen because I am a big fan of Slot. His first season has really impressed me. He is a good man. And he is clearly a very, very good coach, given the work he has done. But I think the key to this situation will be the match against Fulham. If he can put pressure on United and Villa, and if he can stay competitive against PSG next week, I think everything will be fine and the situation will be better in five or six days,"

"So far, I think the players have admitted it, the managers have admitted it hasn't been good enough, but they've still got a chance this week. It's a huge week, on the back of a really poor performance, against Manchester City, they've got to stand up and be counted individually and collectively (...) And they've just got to go and give it everything they've got against this PSG team. Try and take the game to Anfield next week, use the crowd and try and galvanise something from the season."

"Because if the week goes the other way, and they don't do that, and they don't try and galvanise something from the season, unfortunately the pressure, the heat, the intensity is going to come even more on the players, and certainly on Arne Slot as well, which from a fan point of view right now, I don't want to see," analyzed Steven Gerrard, convinced that in the short term, the most important match for Liverpool is the one in the Premier League this weekend.

This could allow PSG to take advantage, especially since Luis Enrique's men will not play any Ligue 1 matches between the two meetings with Liverpool.
