Marseille is interested in Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The former PSG player could leave Old Trafford this summer for around $33M.
Looking to add rebound players to give new life to his team, Marseille is considering former PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte, who has not managed to convince at Manchester United.
It is difficult for Marseille to advance in the transfer window with so many uncertainties. There is already a big question mark about the club's sporting future, with a European place targeted but far from assured.
On top of that, it is impossible to know who will be the sporting director and the coach next season. That is a lot of doubts, and it is necessarily difficult in these conditions to convince future players to choose the Marseille project.
But a transfer window is not prepared at the last minute either, and Stephane Richard and his teams must already be making contacts and working on a few moves, with the help of Medhi Benatia, who is still at the club.
Thus, according to Ekrem Konur, contacts have been made with Ugarte, 25, who plays at Manchester United. Since his arrival from PSG for $55 million, the Uruguayan has not lived up to expectations. He was even at one point the Red Devils' bad luck charm, with them losing every match he started.
The midfielder is finishing the season without really convincing, with long spells on the bench and some appearances. He has only played in four of the last 10 matches, including three as a substitute. Suffice it to say that United will not oppose his departure this summer.
At a necessarily reduced price, since his value has dropped below $33 million. Several clubs are in the running. Besides Marseille, Ajax, Napoli, AC Milan, Juventus, and Galatasaray have inquired about a player who had not managed to establish himself at PSG.
If he is sometimes a little short on technical ability, his work rate has worked wonders at Sporting Portugal, and Ugarte is now looking to relaunch himself, as he is only 25 years old. To do this, he will choose the project that suits him this summer, above all, with the assurance of playing time. That is something Marseille can promise him, knowing that there should be a big clear-out at the transfer window in Marseille, in midfield as elsewhere.
