PSG transfer target Laciné Megnan has extended his Montpellier contract until 2029. Here's what we know about the 16-year-old forward and PSG's interest.

Pursued by PSG during last summer's transfer window, Montpellier's young and promising forward, Laciné Megnan, has just extended his contract with the club by a year.

Perfect timing. Just as PSG has been without Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for months and was already considering, before that injury, signing a young left winger with high potential for next winter's transfer window, a young attacking player PSG targeted last summer has just extended his contract with his club.

That player is Laciné Megnan, a 16-year-old Montpellier forward.

Megnan plays primarily as a center-forward, but Zoumana Camara fielded him at left wing last Monday at Rodez, and the young France under-17 international repaid him by scoring Montpellier's second goal. It was already this young forward's second Ligue 2 goal this season.

Setting a new club record, Laciné Megnan extended his contract with Montpellier by one year on Thursday evening, until June 2029. He signed his first professional contract last February, when he was only 15. Last summer, many clubs tried to sign him, including PSG.

Several French media outlets reported that PSG already had a contract with the player and reportedly made several offers to Montpellier, including one worth 10 million euros. That wasn't enough to convince Laurent Nicollin, who preferred to keep his promising prospect and sell him for much more in the future.

On Montpellier's official website, Laciné Megnan reacted to his extension: "This extension shows once again the interest the club has in me, and it makes me happy! When the directors spoke to me about it, I didn't hesitate and said yes immediately. Seeing all this trust placed in me here weighed on my decision to extend at Montpellier... And knowing how young I am makes it even more rewarding. So extending wasn't just an option for me; it was obvious (smiles). When I first came to Stade de La Mosson, I dreamed of playing against Dijon. Seeing the supporters applaud at the end of the match and call us... That was something powerful. We have a great group with strong cohesion, and we're young; when we step out of line, the older ones put us in our place, which is normal. I hope we go as far as possible."

While a departure for Laciné Megnan this winter seems unlikely, his name will return to the news during the next summer transfer window. This season, he has already played in seven of nine Ligue 2 matchdays, starting five and scoring two goals. Montpellier is currently second in the league and, more than ever, in the race for promotion to Ligue 1.
