PSG are interested in Barcelona's Eric García for January, according to reports. The versatile defender could cost €55M. Competition from Premier League clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain are always a protagonist in the transfer window, and in the upcoming one, it seems that will be no exception. The club from the French capital could even strengthen its squad once again by recruiting a player from FC Barcelona.
PSG already made several changes to its squad during the summer transfer window. The Rouge et Bleu have had to compensate for the departures of key names such as Lee Kang-in, Gonçalo Ramos, Ibrahim Mbaye, and even Bradley Barcola, the latter of whom joined Liverpool.
So far, the Parisians’ start to the season has been quite disappointing, but manager Luis Enrique knows that the season is long and that changes can still be made along the way.
In the winter transfer window, meaning in January, new players could arrive in the French capital, and, as has become customary in recent years, PSG appears to have set their sights on a Barcelona player.
According to information from CaughtOffside, PSG remains interested in Barça defender Eric García. The Catalan, who is still under contract with Barcelona until 2031, would be on the radar of the Parisian club’s sporting directors.
According to the same report, the Spanish club’s executives expect to receive at least €55 million to let their player leave. García’s versatility is precisely what most attracts Enrique. García can play both at centre back and at right back.
In this case, whatever Enrique has to say to García could perhaps be the most decisive factor in determining whether there is a genuine possibility of the defender moving to Paris.
If PSG wants to complete the signing of the Spanish centre-back, in addition to convincing the player, it will have to face competition from major clubs such as Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Inter Milan, AS Roma, Fiorentina and Como, all of whom are interested in García, according to the same report.
For now, while he waits to learn more about his future, the player will have to continue performing at a high level to earn minutes with Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, as he has already moved ahead of Jules Koundé.
Frankly, that versatile profile of a right-footed centre-back who can also play at right back is something PSG has needed for quite some time.
Although they have already had profiles such as Lucas Hernández and Lucas Beraldo, who have played both left centre-back and left-back, they have not found that type of profile on the right side. Instead, Achraf Hakimi’s backup is almost always Warren Zaïre-Emery, whose natural position is in midfield.
