PSG enter Rodri battle with Real Madrid as Luis Enrique gives his approval. The World Cup winner has rejected two City extensions and wants to return to Madrid.

Appearing in an unlikely way on Saturday, the rumor linking Rodri to PSG is also being commented on in Spain. And it is Luis Enrique himself who would be pushing for the signing of his countryman.

While the main person involved seemed destined to play for Manchester City or Real Madrid next season, PSG has burst into the Rodri case in recent days, as RMC revealed on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Spanish international midfielder, voted best player of the recent World Cup that he won, has repeatedly spoken of his desire to return to Madrid, his hometown, but Paris is still studying the case.

In Sunday's Spanish media, Real Madrid, which already has an agreement with the player, is still considered the big favorite to land the midfielder, who is under contract with Manchester City until June 2027.

His current club obviously wants to keep him and has already made him two extension offers, both of which he rejected. PSG is studying the conditions for a possible move on its side, with negotiations with City no longer forbidden.

According to the Madrid sports outlet AS, PSG has received the green light from a certain Luis Enrique in this case. The Parisian coach knows Rodri very well, having coached him with the national team, and he would look very favorably on adding the player to his squad given his quality.

Enough to convince Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi to dig a little deeper into the option. On the Paris side, Rodri is seen as a tremendous addition to a team that is already of very high quality.

If this rumor linking Rodri to PSG has appeared to many fans as totally unlikely given the player’s age, the position he plays and the capital club’s desire to sign much younger players for years, we must not forget either that the Al-Khelaifi, Campos, Luis Enrique trio has never ruled out stepping away from the general guideline as long as the player is worth it.

Joshua Kimmich, when he was almost 30, had nearly signed with Paris, as he recently confirmed in an interview. Last summer, PSG had also been looking for an experienced player to complete the midfield but had not found what it wanted and therefore did not sign anyone.

It seems like another midfielder is not a real need for PSG, as they have the starter trio of Vitinha, Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz, with Warren Zaire-Emery as the first potential change from the bench. But when an opportunity to sign an elite player such as Rodri arises, there's no way to ignore it. Let's see what happens.
