PSG will face Bayern Munich on Wednesday night for a place in the Champions League final. Joao Pinheiro will be the referee for this clash between the Bavarians and the Parisians, as he was the unexpected choice by UEFA.

Paris Saint-Germain will play one of the most important matches in its history on Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena. The capital club will travel to Munich with a one-goal advantage.

A slim advantage that must absolutely be preserved to try to string together a second consecutive Champions League final. Every detail will count in this Bayern-PSG, especially the referee's decisions.

For this semifinal return leg, Portuguese Joao Pinheiro will be the referee. The appointment of the 38-year-old referee surprises many, as he has never officiated at this stage of European competition.

But PSG can be reassured, as it still brings back good memories for the European champions. He was indeed present as the fourth official during the final won by the capital club in Munich against Inter.

He also officiated during the European Super Cup final between PSG and Tottenham. Bayern can also have good reasons to be confident with Pinheiro, since the German club won both matches he refereed in Europe.

During the Champions League semifinal first leg last week at the Parc des Princes, Sandro Scharer was not completely convincing.

He notably awarded two penalties during the match, both of which were contested and poorly digested by either PSG or Bayern.

The pressure will therefore be heavy on Joao Pinheiro's shoulders, who will not lack work during this Bayern Munich-PSG clash, which once again promises plenty of spectacle for soccer fans and observers.
