Real Madrid is reportedly keeping an eye on PSG star Vitinha amid midfield needs.

Since the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, Real Madrid has been in need of a top-level midfielder. According to reports, the favorite among Merengue fans is PSG vice captain Vitinha.

Vitinha, 26, has been linked to the club led by Florentino Perez for months by various outlets. Although the Portuguese midfielder publicly declared that he considers it "stupid" to leave PSG, hope remains in Spain.

Spanish outlet AS conducted a poll to find out which Real Madrid midfield signing fans want most, listing names such as Adam Wharton, Kees Smit, Enzo Fernandez, Rodri, and Vitinha himself. Vitinha won by a wide margin with 47% of the total votes.

Although this was a simple fan poll, the website Fichajes reports that the Real Madrid board sees "Viti" as the ideal signing should the pursuit of Enzo Fernandez become complicated.

A somewhat ironic report, considering that while Fernandez, 25, has said things like he would like to live in Madrid and does not rule out leaving Chelsea, the Portuguese midfielder has done the complete opposite -- publicly committing to staying in Paris.

"For the Vitinha signing to be possible, there is one key factor: his decision. If the player pushes Paris Saint-Germain to let him leave, the operation could move quickly," the website explains.

Real Madrid is almost certainly monitoring this situation closely, knowing that when a player wants to change clubs, negotiations can shift entirely.

For now, Vitinha has not taken that step, "but the Spanish club trusts that the interest could make him reconsider his future at Paris Saint-Germain," Fichajes notes.

On one hand, Enzo Fernandez represents a safe bet -- but a very expensive one. On the other hand, Vitinha emerges as a more balanced alternative, though a significantly more complicated one.
